Some runners love treadmills and some runners loathe them as a training tool, but they do have benefits including safety and comfort when it's dark or in wet or cold weather, and the ability to control your training parameters.
Despite opposing opinions, research shows that running on a treadmill is the same as running outside, so long as you make some adjustments. Setting the treadmill to a one per cent incline mimics the effort you would have put in if you were overcoming wind resistance on an outdoor run.
