Can exercising on an empty stomach help you lose weight?

Question: I exercise first thing in the morning, usually a 45- to 60-minute run or stationary cycle. Is it best to eat before, or after, I work out? I am trying to lose weight.

 

Answer: It’s a much debated question: Should you work out on an empty or (partially) full stomach? The answer, I’m afraid, isn’t clear cut. It depends on your overarching fitness goal: weight loss, improving endurance performance or both. Even then, your overall diet factors in, too. If your main objective is to lose body fat, research suggests that getting your run – or bike ride – in before you eat breakfast delivers extra benefits.
